Adult Assessment (SPIn)

Our Service Planning Instrument (SPIn™) assesses risk, needs and protective factors in adult populations. It can be used in probation, parole, re-entry and custodial settings to assess risk of recidivism and to identify service needs.

The primary objective of SPIn™ is to help case workers develop service plans for their criminal justice clients. SPIn™ also:

  • Provides scoring, classifying offenders according to overall risk level so that you can assign adequate supervision.
  • Focuses on user application issues – building assessment interfaces that help users apply the results.
  • Links assessment results immediately to individual case planning and to appropriate service provision.
  • Helps with case planning by identifying areas of need that you can easily link to interventions and other services for adult offenders.
  • Displays assessment results using clear, easy to follow graphical features through web-based software

After producing a risk and protective factor profile, SPIn™ software helps guide users through case plan development. It also tracks the progress of the case plan over time.

SPIn Implementation

In addition to training on conducting SPIn™ assessments, we offer a two-day training course for case planning purposes.

We have developed a number of tools for helping jurisdictions make the most of SPIn:

  • Supervisor training
  • Quality assurance assessment
  • Data workshops
  • Refresher training
  • On-site technical support
