Transitions - Substance Abuse Treatment for Offenders
If you have a continuous intake of new clients and are in a community setting, we can offer you Transitions, a substance abuse treatment program based on a cognitive-behavioral approach.
Cognitive-Behavioral Approach
This approach helps prepare offenders to develop and practice a set of skills for coping with substance abuse problems following release.
Community Focused
Through the Transitions program, offenders identify community resources that will link them to the community. It also assists them in acquiring proficiency in marital, parenting, employment and other contexts that challenge their coping resources.
Settings
The program is ideal for delivery in facilities, residential treatment programs and community settings. For example, you could use the intervention in probation or parole settings where frequent reporting is required as well as in re-entry settings.
Continuous Entry
The program operates on a continuous entry model so that participants aren’t required to begin and complete the program at the same time.
Clients face a number of challenges when returning to the community:
- Reengage with family (including children where applicable)
- Find and maintain employment or find opportunities for education
- Establish stable accommodation
- Manage money
- Develop constructive leisure activities
- Establish positive peer relationships
- Manage emotions
- Solve problems
- Maintain a drug-free lifestyle
